Blind Tharm
Originally known as THARM. It is not known when the band was formed, since the Tharm brothers had played together since they were kids, focusing on old school heavy metal. In 1995 the brothers met guitarist/organist Roger Raev and drummer Arne A.Pendiksen, and the band took on a new, more extreme musical direction. They felt they needed a change in the name department too and Blind Tharm was chosen, partly thanks to Pendiksens obsession with german metallers BLIND GUARDIAN, and partly because of Raev’s bad eyesight at the time. (Thankfully, Raev bought contact lenses in time for the groups few recording sessions, and his organ playing improved overnight.) In 1998, after three turbulent years, the band called it a day.
In the years after the break-up there were disagreements over rights, with Endre claiming the ownership to the bands name because he had writer credits on nearly all of the bands material. That Endre was the main writer was also the impression among the fans in their active years, as in fact the band had tried to push Endre forward as the writer and frontman to improve the image. In reality it was brother Tyck who had written most of the songs, but as a rather shy man he wanted to stay out of the spotlight.
Other issues, most of more personal matter, helped divide the brothers even more after the break up, and the future for their relationship did not look the best.
Tyck wantet to continue in the business, and inspired by the Norwegian black metal scene he formed the band BLINDUR THARMUR with Pendiksen in 1999. Endre reacted strongly against the use of such a similar name to Blind Tharm, and threatened to sue. This turbulence led to delay after delay in the writing process, and the record company started to lose interest in the band. When finally Pendiksen accepted an offer from LEEK THORN and left the band, BLINDUR THARMUR was history.
Tyck struggled on, and soon he had formed a new band, FALTUR ILDTUR, with former bandmate Roger Raev handling the vocals and guitar. Embracing viking metal, the band recorded an album in 2001 that never saw the light of day due to sudden bankrupcy with the record company. The band was never released from their contract with the label, but the record, “Altura”, eksist in various bootleg versions. Today Tyck and Raev admits the limitations of the genre, and are both glad the release never came about.
Still not talking, the Tharm brothers never the less decided to accept an offer from Tyntis Records to reform and record an album in 2006. The album contains only old material, mostly due to the fact that the brothers simply refuses to meet face to face during the recording process. The material is recorded in two separate studios, Buran Studios and Ground Hill Studios. Producer on the record is Stigma frontman Stig Rune Robertsen, who also contributes some vocals on some of the songs. This has naturally been a difficult and longlasting process, but the result, “Morbid Visions” is worth it all!
